Theo Jansen gave a wonderful lecture on his creatures at the 2007 TED conference (TED is a WONDERFUL source of interesting information for those who are unfamiliar with it: http://www.ted.com/pages/5). Unfortunately the lecture isn't on their site anymore. While the Beests are amazingly beautiful and engineered to perfection, I thought it was interesting that they're created as new organisms and left to "live" on the beaches ... sort of an evolution of a "new" species.
